Transgender Awareness Week #TransWk: Thursday’s info

The infographic below makes for depressing reading. Although distressing for transpeople themselves, it is possibly more distressing for those who love and support them. It confirms all the things that worry the families and partners of transmen and transwomen when they first come out as trans. It feeds into the uneasy feeling that being trans is a dangerous thing to be and, in doing so, make coming out as trans even harder.

Education is the key to solving the problems of discrimination and abuse. The more people who know and understand that transpeople are human beings, just like them, the more being trans will cease to be a big deal. When that happens, the cases of substance abuse, depression, suicide and discrimination will drop.
